Patrons line up like payday depositors in a bank, waiting to drop a few nickels in a slot for favorites like baked beans and Salisbury steak, freshly made each day and kept in post office-like boxes.

This New York City Automat was part of the Automat chain Horn & Hardart, which sold 72,000 pieces of pie a day.

Eating at a New York Automat with high-tech, self-serving vending machines rather than waitresses and clean Art Deco architecture instead of overwrought dining rooms must have been an unforgettable experience for visitors to the Big Apple.

The Automat served freshly made food for the price of a few nickels, and it was said that no one made a better cup of coffee. By the peak of its popularity—from the Great Depression to the post-war years—the Automat was more than an inexpensive place to buy a good meal; it was a culinary treasure, a technical marvel, and an emblem of the times.

It’s not hard to look your best, and you know that all that time you spend on trying to get there isn’t really needed. You don’t need to wake up two hours earlier in the morning just to work on your face or your hair. A woman is beautiful just by being a woman. There is a certain charisma that cannot be replaced and is not needed to be aided by makeup or accessories. Clothing can help bring out a woman’s beauty and should always be chosen carefully. Right now, body con dresses are very in season. Since everyone is looking for a cute summer dress right now, lots of stores (both in malls and online retailers) are having sales or throwing discounts everywhere. Learn to truly look your best by choosing and purchasing well fitting and pretty clothes. A lot of work goes into making clothes and beautiful dresses, so they should all be worn with pride and considered treasures. As long as it is not too short, a dress will always be a classy fashion decision. If you are a newcomer to the dress world, there are a few different things to keep in mind. Color can be quite important, especially depending on where you are headed out to. If you are wearing a dress to somewhere formal, I would not suggest opting for the orange or green dress. Vibrant colors can be off-putting and distracting in formal settings. You really can’t ever go wrong wearing a black or white dress, no matter where you are headed. They are always a great mixture of classy and sexy and can be just as alluring as a red dress. You should also contemplate which type of dress will fit you most. If you have a really great figure, show it off! But remember, there is a fine line between sexy and trashy! Bodycon dresses will really put you in the spotlight, and if you love that then go ahead and rock it, girl! Save your money for something besides clothes, because you know that the designer dress won’t help you much when you can’t afford rent. When you actually have a lot of extra money to splurge, than go ahead and have a shopping spree. Until then, try and watch your funds! You can spend it much easier than you can earn it.

I’ve been a fan of David Lynch since Eraserhead, and while I wouldn’t exactly call Dune his greatest work, it’s got some great shit in it and is well worth watching.

Hell, the scene where the Guild navigator visits the Emporer is alone worth the price of admission.

Clearly the powers that be at the studio anticipated Dune was going to be the next Star Wars, which probably explains why they approved a Dune coloring book for kids.

Be sure to color Baron Harkonnen’s pustules bright red!

Named ‘Poppy’ this car is quite charming, an excellent example of one of the best loved and practical classic British cars ever produced.
